After a brawl at a Hertha home game earlier this year, police have used AI-powered technology to comb over 600 hours of footage and identify the fans involved.

Since January, the Berlin police have had new powers. After a comprehensive reform to the General Security and Public Order Act (ASOG) passed the House of Representatives, late last year, cops have been able to employ new tools for video surveillance, monitoring texts and calls, and AI-driven biometric facial recognition. The law came into effect at the beginning of the year, and immediately politicians and police wanted to expand it, broadening the AI-powered video surveillance beyond crime hotspots to coverage general public space.
