HEIST is a worker-owned online magazine, founded by writers and editors who after years working across Berlin's media landscape believed something essential was missing.

Our bet is that worker ownership can be the antidote to a media that isn't truly serving the community. HEIST wants to steal the media back from the people who've bought it up. We want to speak to the new generations of workers, writers and artists who are making their home here, and who are changing Berlin today.
A recap of our daily news — the stories that help you really understand the city.
Each week, we bring you one long-form story to read from Berlin. Our main focus: great writing, and on the ground reporting.
Art, music, film and weekend tips from the people reshaping the city today.
Where to eat, drink and hang out. Get advice from real people, not the algorithm.
Interviews with artists, gallery shows, weekends, studio visits. What's happening in the art world.
Book recommendations, stuff that caught our eye on the internet, film tips, event giveaways and whatever else that happens to be on our minds.
Real journalism costs money. We want to show that it's possible to create important, impactful, entertaining local journalism without relying on bad-faith ownership.
We commission hard-hitting, well-reported stories — the kind of long-form work everyone wants to read but nobody seems to publish anymore.
We pay contributors what their work deserves. That's not standard practice in independent media. We think it should be.
A regular contribution, however small, is the most valuable thing a reader can give an independent publication. It lets us plan, commission and invest in people.
