This year, CSD in Berlin was supposed to last all weekend. Instead, Pride weekend was cut short on Saturday evening when a man drove a rented white minibus into a crowd of people celebrating in the Tiergarten. One woman was killed and 29 others were injured; as of Sunday, four were still being treated in intensive care according to Charité, though police later confirmed none of the injured remained in life-threatening condition.

Remarkably, the offender was able to escape the scene following the attack, triggering a city-wide manhunt. But around 18:00 on Sunday evening, the suspect — now being reported as Berliner Abdul Ballout — was tracked down to an allotment in Spandau, and shot and killed by special forces.

Many aspects of this crime will likely come out in the following weeks, but some reporting from the German media is already quite revealing.
